HR Pioneers Automated Agile Analysis
How agile is your company? Where is there hitherto untapped potential in your agile transformation? By asking these (and other) questions relating to the agilisation of their structures, the HR Pioneers aim to use their expertise to support companies throughout their agile transformations.
In order to thoroughly examine the status quo of a company’s agile transformation and to use it as a basis for making next steps and recommendations, the Cologne-based company has developed a questionnaire known as the Trafo Check. This questionnaire is based on the HR Pioneers’ Trafo Model and provides an overview of areas for potential agile work and collaboration. inovex had the task of automating the check and developing a solution that would generate over 1000 reports a year with as little maintenance as possible.
The Trafo Model
The HR Pioneers’ Trafo Model offers companies a structured approach to increasing their agility. Obstacles to using agile methods can be found in many areas of a company, including strategy, structure, processes, HR, leadership, and culture. The Trafo Model identifies these areas and recommends specific steps for their transformation. These steps may include developing customer-centric strategies, establishing cross-functional organisational structures, creating faster, more customer-focused processes, or aligning HR roles and processes and promoting agile leadership. The HR Pioneers aim to use targeted measures in these areas to enable companies to position themselves more agilely and to better equip them to meet changing market conditions.
The Challenge
The HR Pioneers offer their Trafo Check as a free service to companies. It enables them to categorise themselves within the Trafo Model and to reveal previously untapped potential. Managers can also use the Leadership Radar to perform self-evaluations and to collect feedback from their team members.
The Trafo Check questionnaires − which are completed by at least one person, but frequently by entire teams − were previously evaluated manually. The results were then (manually) summarised in a presentation which was made available to each company upon completion of the process.
inovex’s task was to automate this process while ensuring a consistently positive user experience, thus reducing the manual workload involved. In addition, the new solution should be able to generate over 1000 reports per year with as little intervention as possible.
Implementation
As an IT project house with a history of agile expertise dating back to the very beginnings of agile software development, inovex was able to avoid any lengthy onboarding processes and immediately begin working with the HR Pioneers on developing the desired tool.
The LimeSurvey open-source tool was used as a basis for the creation of two versions each of the Trafo Check and the Leadership Radar, one for individuals and one for teams. A specially customised PDF generator automatically creates the evaluation as each survey is completed. In order to further reduce the HR Pioneers’ workload, the entire setup is hosted in the Azure Cloud, where it can be quickly and easily maintained and modified.
Result
The close collaboration between the HR Pioneers and inovex quickly resulted in a survey and evaluation tool which automates the requisite work processes, thus freeing up resources for individual consulting tasks.
The collaborative partnership between the HR Pioneers and inovex enabled the original tool concept to be expanded upon. This ultimately resulted in an even better product which helps companies determine the areas in which they could benefit from agile consulting.
